Date: November 13, 2012 Event: South Africa Mini Tour (Trespassing Promo) Type: Concert Televised: No Venue: Grand Arena, GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World City: Cape Town Province: Western Cape Country: South Africa |
Highlights
This is the first of Adam's two South African mini-tour concerts. The gig features a heavily reworked set complete with new songs, new costumes, dancers and props (including a straitjacket)!
- The new/reworked songs:
- With "Cuckoo" now performed early on the set, it no longer contains the band introduction but is performed in full.
- "Pop That Lock" is no longer performed as a mashup.
- The first live version of "Underneath" is sung with great emotional intensity.
- The bridge of "Broken English" is performed with snatches of the "siren wailing".
- "Outlaws of Love" is performed in reggae style segueing into "Is this Love".
- Adam does not perform "Kickin' In". The song is performed by the divas while he does a costume change.
- David Bowie's "Fame", which Adam once performed every night for the Idols tour makes a reappearance, serving as a nice treat for early and new fans.
- "Strut", which was last performed publicly in Canada in 2011 (though has been performed privately later) also makes a reappearance.
- A cover of Lenny Kravitz's "Are You Gonna Go My Way" is performed for the first time.
- The dancers:
- The gig marks the return of Terrance Spencer who danced for Adam during GNT.
- The new addition to the team is Johnny Rice.
- Both have a long history of friendship with Adam, and performed with him on "Kiss and Tell" at Club 740 years ago (November 21, 2008).
- The costumes:
- For the first part of the set, a blue suit with lightning bolt emblazoned on the back of the jacket. The divas (Reyna and Traci) wear blue wigs of the same colour.
- Straitjacket over the blue outfit for "Cuckoo".
- Jeans, black tank top and vest for the middle, slower section starting from "Whataya Want From Me".
- Fringed arm sleeves with a black tank top, vest and lace-up crotch leather pants starting from "Fame"; the divas sport black Afro wigs.
- A black and yellow striped leather jacket custom-designed by The Blonds, with yellow pants spray-painted with black stripes for "Trespassing". The dancers sport yellow Afro wigs.
